Think About It!

That Bunch of Hypocrites!!!

Years ago I can remember making smug statements like "I won't go to church with a bunch of hypocrites." Have you ever heard anyone say that? Have you ever said it?
But why not go to church with a bunch of hypocrites? We go everywhere else with them! Nobody gets bent out of shape about going to Joe's Bar & Grill with a bunch of hypocrites--or to work, ballgames, rodeos, or wherever it is you go. Hypocrites are in all those places! But church? Never!
We're strange creatures, aren't we? Our reasoning, or lack thereof, is interesting to say the least. Think about this: If that someone you call a hypocrite is really doing something you think is wrong, isn't church a good place for him or her to be? Maybe a truth will be heard that will result in growth or change in them.
How about you? If you never go to church--if you let the hypocrites keep you away--who are you hurting? Not the hypocrite you're condemning! You're really hurting yourself and those who love you. If you stay away from hearing what God teaches about life and how to live it, and if you avoid hearing his truth, you may never find out you can know Him and have a real relationship with Him. Your chances of changing and growing into the person you can be is seriously diminished.
You may be thinking, "I don't have to change or grow. Why should I?"
Unless you are growing emotionally and spiritually throughout our lives by the power of God's word and His love, we're missing the essence of life!
Remember--if you let the hypocrite you're pointing a finger at stand between you and God, He's still closer to God than you are.
Think about it.

Friends in High Places

In one of his early mega-hits, Garth Brooks sang about having friends in "low places." Well, I guess we all do. Do you ever wish for friends in high places? Have you ever fantasized about having a close friend who was rich and powerful? Have you ever considered what it would be like to be able to call on someone who would be on your side no matter what you have done--someone who would be there for you when no one else cared--someone who would love you when you were on your worst behavior--someone you didn't have to try to impress--someone who accepted you exactly the way you are. And wouldn't it be great if that someone were a king?! (Hey, if you're going to fantasize, why not do it up big?)
Guess what? I have a friend like that and talk about high places! He just happens to be the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords! His name is Jesus Christ.
Right now you may be thinking I'm bragging. You may think I'm crazy, or you just may be turned off without knowing exactly why. But give me a break! The only reason I want to tell you this is because I know He's real and that He can make your life complete. I know Him from experience!
Before you criticize me, think about how you would behave if you had an intimate friendship with an earthly king. Don't you think you would tell a few people? What if you were a personal friend of the King of Country Music, or the King of Rock and Roll, whoever your choice may be for that title. Don't you think you'd tell people? You might even brag about it, huh? If you could introduce everyone you knew to him, wouldn't you want to do it?
But how would that really change their lives? Would he have the afore listed characteristics? Would he always be there to help them, comfort, and accept them? I doubt it! But Jesus Christ will do that and more.
And guess what? He's not a fantasy! He's real! He loves you! He accepts you and is only waiting for you to accept Him. How wonderful that He, too, has friends in "low places."
Think about it.
